Definitions
Vehicle – The vehicle rented from drakakis rent-a-car
Driver – The registered driver of the vehicle
We, Us, Our, the Company – drakakis rent-a-car
You, Your, the Customer, the Contract Holder – The primary person named on the rental contract
Excess – the maximum amount payable by the contract holder in case of an insurance claim
Reservation, Booking, Contract – The agreement to rent a vehicle from drakakis rent-a-car for a defined period
Rental period – the agreed period that a vehicle is rented from drakakis rent-a-car
Pick-up, Delivery – The point at which the customer collects the vehicle from drakakis rent-a-car
Drop-off, Return – The point at which the customer returns the vehicle to drakakis rent-a-car
Vehicle Category – The type of vehicle rented from drakakis rent-a-car
Required Documents
To be eligible for vehicle rental you must present a valid driving licence for each registered driver. The driving licence must have been issued at least one year before the rental date. International renters may be required to also have in their possession an international drivers permit if their license is issued outside the EU, USA, Canada or Australia. For more information on the validity of international licenses check with the Greek Consulate in your country or contact us.
The minimum age for car rental is 23 (subject to vehicle category).
We also require credit card details so we can take a security deposit.
Collection
Kythira Airport: One of our helpful team will be waiting for you at our office in the airport, which is situated next to the baggage carousel in the arrivals hall. (view in Google Maps)
Diakofti Port: One of our helpful team will be waiting for you on the left side of the building at the port of Diakofti, holding a sign with your name on it. (view in Google Maps)
From our office in Livadi: Please visit our office in Livadi, located at the entrance to Livadi coming from Chora, where we will be happy to assist you. (view in Google Maps)
From Agia Pelagia: One of our helpful team will deliver the car to your hotel in Agia Pelagia, where they will meet you at the reception desk to finalise the rental.
Other pickup locations on Kythira are available (an additional fee may apply – please refer below to Delivery & Return charges
Age Conditions
For vehicles of all categories
- The minimum age for drivers is 23.
- The maximum age for drivers is 75. (Can be extended at an additional standard charge of 18€)
Additional Driver
We offer the option to add additional drivers to the rental contract for an extra 2€ per day (each driver). Any additional drivers must meet the required age and licensing conditions.
Vehicle Insurance
The rental contract includes basic insurance coverage towards third parties, plus comprehensive insurance with an excess (C.D.W.1 – refer below for excess amounts per category). This means that the contract holder is covered for personal or material damage to third parties caused by the driver of the vehicle. Furthermore, the contract holder of the car is held financially responsible for damage to the rental car up to the excess amount.
We also offer further comprehensive insurance coverage options at an additional cost. These vary depending on the excess amount that the customer is willing to pay. The options available are as follows:
For vehicles in all categories, excluding category K, J, J1, L1 & M
- Insurance Option #1 (C.D.W.1) - Excess Amount 930€; Included.
- Insurance Option #2 (C.D.W.2) - Excess Amount 148,80€; Additional Cost 8€ per day.
- Insurance Option #3 (S.C.D.W.) - Excess Amount 0€; Additional Cost 15€ per day.
For vehicles in category K
- Insurance Option #1 (C.D.W.1) - Excess Amount 1,200€; Included.
- Insurance Option #2 (C.D.W.2) - Excess Amount 148.80€; Additional Cost 15€ per day
- Insurance Option #3 (S.C.D.W.) - Excess Amount 0€; Additional Cost 25€ per day.
For vehicles in category J, J1, L1 & M
- Insurance Option #1 (C.D.W.1) - Excess Amount 2,500€; Included.
- Insurance Option #2 (C.D.W.2) - Excess Amount 930€; Additional Cost 18€ per day.
- Insurance Option #3 (S.C.D.W.) – Excess Amount 0€; Additional Cost 50€ per day.
C.D.W.1 & C.D.W.2 policies do not cover the following:
- Damage caused to the wheels and tyres
- Damage caused to the underside of the car
- Damage caused to the car windows and mirrors.
- Roadside assistance
The insurance policy does not cover the following:
- Loss of vehicle key, which is charged at 400€.
- Damage caused to the vehicle, or third parties, whilst it is being transported by boat.
- Damage caused to the vehicle, or third parties, whilst the driver is under the influence of alcohol or narcotic substances.
- Damage caused to the vehicle, or third parties, whilst driving on unsealed roads.
- Loss or damage of personal objects in the vehicle.
- Damage caused to the vehicle, or third parties, by a driver not declared in the lease contract.
Cancellation Policy
Our cancellation schedule is set out as follows:
- Cancellation any time up to 1 month prior to the start of the rental period: Full refund of deposit amount as a credit voucher.
- Cancellation between 1 month and 24 hours from the start of the rental period: 2-day rental fee.
- Less than 24 hours cancellations (no-show): full amount of deposit.
Required Deposit
During these difficult and challenging times we understand that flexibility is very important. For this reason, currently, we are only requesting an advance deposit for reservations booked in our specialty categories (AC, A1, CA, C1, D, D1, E, E1, G, K, J and J1) and this is due to the limited number of vehicles available in these groups. The required deposit is equal to two days rental within 7 days of your confirmation using the below payment method.
For bookings in all other categories, an advance deposit is not required, we ask you kindly to inform us of any changes in your plans which affect your rental car booking as soon as possible.
Payment Methods
Bookings made via the website
Bookings made online can be paid by Mastercard or Visa using the secure online payment system.
Bookings made with our office
Bookings made with our customer service team can be paid by Mastercard or Visa using the National Bank of Greece vpos secure system (payments by American Express or Diners cards are possible only at our office at an additional commission fee of 3%).
All bookings must be paid in full upon pick up of vehicle or prior.
Car Rental Outside Kythira
Drop off/return outside of Kythira:
Please contact us to discuss this service. Availability and additional charges are dependent on the required location.
Car delivery/pick up outside of Kythira:
We regret we are unable to offer this service
If you wish to take the car outside of Kythira at any time, you must have our written authorisation to do so, as there are additional requirements that need to be completed to ensure the insurance is valid. There is also an additional 70€ surcharge payable by the contract holder.
Additional Options
- Satellite Navigation System/GPS (on request): 5€ per day (maximum charge: 14 days)
- 1st baby/child seat (guaranteed delivery): 5€ per day (maximum charge: 14 days).
- 2nd child seat (on request): 5€ per day (maximum charge: 14 days).
- Bicycle rack (on request): 2€ per day (maximum charge: 14 days).
Fuel Policy
The vehicle must be returned with the same amount of fuel as originally issued by us, otherwise charges are incurred as follows:
Between 20€ and 30€ per quarter tank depending on vehicle model
Pick Up & Drop Off Procedures
Delivery of the vehicle:
The rental contract is drafted and an inspection of the vehicle is carried out by the customer and a representative of our company. Existing damage to the vehicle is agreed upon and noted on the contract.
Return of the vehicle:
Inspection of the vehicle is carried out by the customer and a representative of our company. Any new damage to the vehicle must be paid by the contract holder according to the level of insurance taken.
Delivery & Return charges:
All rentals to and from the Airport during scheduled flight times do not incur a delivery or return charge (including flight delays and changes to flights made by the airline companies)
For rentals outside scheduled flight times and for other locations please refer below:
Between 07:00 - 21:00 :
- Free at the airport, Agia Pelagia and our office in Livadi.
- Free for rentals to any other locations over 3 days
- Extra fee of 15€ per delivery and/or collection to any other locations for rentals of 3 days or less
Between 21:01 - 06:59:
- Extra fee of 20€ + VAT per delivery and/or collection to all locations for all rentals irrespective of length
Vehicle return/drop-off outside of Kythira:

Vehicle delivery/pick up outside of Kythira:
We regret we are unable to offer this service
Vehicle delivery/return to Kythira Airport:
One of our helpful team will be waiting outside the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name on it. He/she will lead you just few meters (~70m) away in order to collect your car.
Vehicle delivery/return to Kythira Port (Diakofti): *
A company representative will be waiting to the left of the main port building, holding a sign with your name on it.
Vehicle delivery/return to your hotel: *
A company representative will meet you at the hotel reception. Please note, additional charges may apply.
Vehicle delivery/return to any other part of the island: *
These details will be arranged after discussion with our office. Please note, additional charges may apply.
* For rental deliveries / returns other than the airport or our office in Livadi you may be required to be transported by taxi or minivan with our driver to our closest office to complete the rental process and pick up your vehicle
Damage to the Vehicle
Interior
The contract holder is responsible and will be charged for any damage, wear or excessive soiling (stains) to the interior of the vehicle.
Exterior
The contract holder is responsible for any new damage incurred to the vehicle during the rental period. The amount payable is dependent on the level of insurance taken.
Taxes & VAT
Our prices include all taxes and VAT of 24% unless otherwise stated.
Extension of Rental Period
Failure to return the car at the agreed date and time will result in additional charges. It is generally possible to extend the rental lease, however please contact our office to check if the vehicle is available for the desired dates.
24hr Roadside Assistance
In the case of an accident or a breakdown, our office will arrange for a technician to be called or the vehicle to be towed to the closest service station. If you are considered responsible for the damage, a 40€ +VAT charge will apply (which must be paid in cash on the spot, unless you have taken the Super CDW insurance) in addition to any other repair expenses. If you are not considered responsible, then the costs are covered by our company and a replacement vehicle will be provided should the repair process exceed a reasonable time frame.
Additional Mileage
We offer our customers unlimited mileage within Kythira at no extra charge.
Driving Infringements
The contract holder is liable for any penalties due to traffic infringements occurring during the rental period.
Replacement Vehicle
In the case of vehicle damage through no fault of the customer, our company guarantees an immediate vehicle replacement. In case of vehicle damage through fault of the customer, our company guarantees vehicle replacement subject to availability.
Personal Data
Drakakis rent-a-car respects the privacy of our customers and any personal information collected is exclusively for internal use. Your personal information is only given to third-parties when required to do so by law.
